The LAN71 Wishbone designed by Andy Newlands, Wade Younie and Kirk Pacenti in 2004 is the second generation road wishbone. The first version was designed by Newlands, Damian Bollerman and Stan Heard in 1985 and has been superseded by this 2004 casting design. This 82.5gm hollow investment cast steel wishbone is designed for Reynolds GC1650 (525 quality) 16mm. x 0.7mm x 580mm. single taper seatstays or other 16mm x .6 to .8mm. wall seatstays and the R116 (525 quality) 19.05mm. x 0.7mm x 190mm. top stay material or the Reynolds tapered topstay R2025T13 Cromo 22.2x.8/.6x420mm. tapered to 13/13.5 (cut to fit 19.05mm. wishbone top plug). The wishbone can be used for fabricating rear triangles for road and track bicycle frames. 3mm. x 1mm. "divots" are cast in for brake bolt drilling for road frames, but can be filled in and filed smooth for track and single speed frames. A 6mm. diameter internal spigot is provided to allow a 5mm. threaded fender boss (lathe drill/tap after brazing the topstay is quite easily done). In the Strawberry "Not So Very Engineering Lab" the LAN71 wishbone maintained a vertical static proof load of 8.8 kilo Newtons (over one ton) in plane compressive load. The wishbone is priced at $17/ea. for quantities 1-4, $14.20/ea. 5-9, $12.15/ea for quantities 10 and up. View this part at the Strawberry workshop/showroom at 1535 S.W. 17th. Ave. and S.W. Market St. in Portland, OR. To order, please contact Andy. PayPal and good check accepted.
